West Ham and Nottingham Forest target Carlos Miguel has announced internally at Corinthians that he will be leaving for England, according to Bruno Andrade.
The CNN Portugal journalist reported on 7 June that the 25-year-old has a verbal agreement with Forest but the Hammers have made a last-gasp attempt to sign the goalkeeper.
He is understood to play the remaining games in June for his current club before officially leaving next month.
Via Twitter, Andrade wrote: “Carlos Miguel announced internally earlier today that he will leave Corinthians to play in England in the second half of the year. It’s resolved.
“The goalkeeper already has a verbal agreement with Nottingham Forest, but in the last few hours he has seen West Ham enter the dispute strongly. Both made it clear that they agreed to pay the fine of 4 million euros (R$23 million).
“Given the good relationship with coach António Oliveira, the black and white number 22 promised, however, that he will play the remaining games in June. The departure, in principle, will only be completed in July, when the transfer window in Europe officially opens.
West Ham will be a better draw for Miguel than Nottingham Forest
Carlos Miguel, the Corinthians goalkeeper, is likely to prefer the Hammers over Nottingham Forest as they are a more established Premier League club with a rich history and a larger fanbase.
The Irons also offer the allure of playing in London, one of the world’s most vibrant cities and a hub for football.
Additionally, West Ham has shown a strong interest in the 25-year-old, making a last-gasp attempt to sign him, which could indicate a more significant role and a more substantial financial commitment from the club.
It remains to be seen what the decision is as both clubs are willing to pay what the Brazilian side want for their coveted goalkeeper.
He will likely be the second choice for the Hammers and will push Alphonse Areola to do better.
Hopefully, the Hammers get a quick response so then they can decide whether or not to pursue alternatives.
