No wins in five matches – Fabian Hurzeler responds to awkward question after Arsenal loss

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler highlighted the ruthless nature of the Premier League as Brighton slipped to 12th in the table.

Arsenal appeared in cruise control after Martin Odegaard landed his first goal of the season before Georginio Rutter put through his own net.

However, Diego Gomez struck back on the 64th minute and David Raya was then needed to produce a fine save to allow Arsenal to take the win and pull two points clear of Manchester City.

Hurzeler: We must turn it around

Brighton have no wins in five and have taken just two points from a possible 15 and slipped to 12th in the table.

“We have to turn it around definitely,” said the German in the post match press conference.

“But we have to focus on performance, not only on results. I think that’s the main thing, the Premier League is ruthless and you need to get the best out of the performance and then you will get the results you deserve.

“But therefore we have to make sure that we can do the small management for 90 minutes.”

Next up for the Seagulls is West Ham at the London Stadium on December 30, followed by Burnley at home on January 3. It should be a chance to get the season back on track, if Albion show the right mentality.

We did not have courage to press Arsenal

“Hurzeler said: “I think everyone describes mentality differently and the definition of it is you can go in different directions.

“So I wouldn’t use mentality but it’s definitely like we didn’t have the belief in the pressing [against Arsenal].

“We didn’t have the courage to press like we wanted to press. We didn’t seem to look like a team who has quality and I think that’s the main thing.

“We have quality, we proved it in this season so far, we can compete with every team in the league and we proved it another time in the second half and that’s the thing we have to take away.”
