Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is buzzing to bring Kasper Schmeichel to the club, personally knowing the attributes and quality he has after working with him in the past.
Schmeichel and Rodgers had a spell together at Leicester City where the shot-stopper excelled as Rodgers’ number one. They lifted the FA Cup in 2021 for the first time in the Foxes’ history.
That relationship will be rekindled in Scotland as the pair chase a trio of trophies north of the border, as well as progress in the UEFA Champions League.
In a new interview with Celtic TV, Rodgers has laid out his happiness with the deal.
The manager also revealed he told Schmeichel that he is going to absolutely adore the Celtic experience, just like Joe Hart did at the tail-end of his career.

The Bhoys boss said: “First and foremost, he’s a top-class goalkeeper. He’s one of the most driven players I’ve ever worked with in my career.
“I know what his qualities are from a football perspective. But I also know Kasper as a person and he’s a great guy. He has experience, he’s charismatic and he’ll be able to support the group.
I’m really happy to bring someone of Kasper’s quality into the football club.
“I’ve also said to him that this will be one of the best experiences of his life, coming to a club this size. I know that he will absolutely love this club.”
Celtic boss finds the ‘quality’ he craves
Given Rodgers’ past use of the word ‘quality’ to describe what he wants out of transfers at Celtic, it’s notable he uses that word to describe his new goalkeeper.
Schmeichel is a top international who, despite his advancing years, still has a lot to offer as a determined and ambitious competitor.
Celtic won’t be signing players in their mid-30s in every position but fans are eager for the club to find a gem or two who have the talent and profile to improve the starting eleven in other positions.
The Danish goalkeeper is a good start to Celtic’s transfer business, but more must follow.
