The striker laid one on a plate for a teammate as they drew with Standard Liege
Adam Idah was handed another Norwich chance this afternoon – and grabbed an assist.
We told earlier how Celtic were handed another strong message as Canaries boss Johannes Hoff Thorup included the striker in his XI for a second game in a row as they took on Standard Liege in Belgium. The game has now finished in a 1-1 draw with right winger Borja Sainz giving the English Championship side the lead before it was cancelled out by Ibe Hautekiet.
Idah played the first half and was heavily involved in the opener. With just nine minutes on the clock, the 23-year-old did what he does best by holding the ball up and evading the attentions of defenders to lay it off for Sainz, who did the rest by smashing it into the net.
He was involved in some other good play, including a neat interchange with Gabriel Sara which nearly brought a second. But soon after that it was half-time and Idah was substitited.
That meant he lasted longer than the last friendly when he was substituted after just 30 minutes but, Thorup later explained that was a planned substitution as he manages minutes during pre-season.
Despite the former Celtic loanee’s heavy involvement, some Norwich fans weren’t convinced, with one saying their opinion of him “hadn’t changed” since before his loan in Glasgow. Another claimed: “Think this is going to be a difficult season if we sell (Josh) Sargent. Surely wouldn’t start the season with Idah, had enough minutes at Norwich to know he is not the answer. Hope he goes to Celtic.”
Meanwhile, Pink Un’s Norwich reporter Connor Southwell was asked if there was any update on the Hoops’ interest, to which he replied “Nope. As you were.”
Scotland duo Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean, the latter linked with Rangers, made their returns after the Euros while former Celt Boli Bolingoli played for Liege.
