Everton FC is eyeing a promising talent to potentially replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Toffees are targeting Boulaye Dia, a forward from Salernitana, who has a knack for finding the back of the net. Dia, a Senegal international, is currently in Serie B following his team’s relegation last season and is keen on returning to one of Europe’s top five leagues.

During the 2023/24 season, Dia showcased his versatility in attack, racking up 16 goals and six assists in Serie A. His impressive record has made him an attractive option for Everton, especially with Calvert-Lewin’s future hanging in the balance as he enters the final year of his contract. While talks of a new deal for Calvert-Lewin are ongoing, his potential departure has prompted Everton to seek a reliable forward, and Dia seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Corriere Dello Sport reports that Everton aims to secure Dia’s services before the transfer window closes on August 30. However, they face stiff competition from Newcastle United, who are also in need of attacking reinforcements. With Callum Wilson, their 32-year-old striker, nearing the end of his contract and Rasmus Hojland sidelined at the start of the season, Newcastle might be forced to make a move, potentially accepting a reduced fee of £20m for Wilson.

Dia’s journey before joining Salernitana included a season at Villarreal, where he played 35 matches, scoring seven goals and providing six assists. His experience in the Champions League and the Super Cup, where he assisted in the final against Chelsea, has added to his appeal.

When comparing Dia to Calvert-Lewin, it’s evident that the Senegalese forward offers more mobility and creativity in the box. In the 2022/23 season, Dia outperformed Calvert-Lewin in several metrics, including attacking actions, expected assists, and key passes per 90 minutes. While Calvert-Lewin had the edge in expected goals and aerial duels, Dia’s ability to score and assist in a struggling team hints at his potential impact at Everton.

If Dia joins Everton, he could become a crucial part of a revamped attack, bringing fresh energy and dynamism to the team. The Toffees are eager to secure this exciting talent, hoping he can rise to the challenge and help lead them to success in the coming seasons.
