Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. And supporters are far from happy with one player who let his side down on the night. Although
both sides put the pressure on one another in search of a goal, neither
was able to break the deadlock in the first half. However, Pep
Guardiola’s side went in front after Jeremy Doku’s low cross was steered
home by Antoine Semenyo. Just minutes later, City thought
they had their second when Semenyo inventively backheeled a corner past
Nick Pope. However, the goal was disallowed, with Erling Haaland accused
of interfering with play from an offside position.

Newcastle Eyeing January Deal to Sign ‘Special’ Star ‘Half the Premier League’ Want

Newcastle are eyeing a deal to sign a ‘special’ midfield star who ‘half the Premier League’ are interested in.

Although the hosts pushed forward in search of an equaliser, they
were dealt a huge blow to their hopes of reaching another final when
Rayan Cherki swept home Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cutback. Newcastle now have it all to do in the second leg on Wednesday 4th February.
Newcastle Need More From Star Who Was Disappointing vs City

Although a match against City is never easy, the visitors were coming
to St James’ Park with just two wins in their last five. With the roars
of the home crowd behind them, Newcastle were in a good position to get
the upper hand in the semi-final tie. And while the Magpies
were beaten on the night, there were numerous chances for them beat
Trafford for a goal of their own. Many of these fell the way of Yoane
Wissa, but the summer signing from Brentford was far too wasteful. Just
five minutes it, the striker had a wonderful chance to put the Magpies
in front when he was played through by Jacob Murphy, but his effort was
well over the goal. And in the second half, he had another chance in the
50th minute, but Trafford was able to push his effort onto the
woodwork.

Newcastle United's Yoane Wissa

While it might be encouraging that he was getting in dangerous
positions, Eddie Howe and the Newcastle faithful would have wanted far
more from their £55m signing, especially as chances against City are
usually few and far between. Wissa certainly found it hard to get
involved on the night, managing just 11 touches over the course of the
game and completing just 60% of his passes.

Brought off in the 69th minute for Nick Woltemade, the German
international should be back into the starting line-up for Newcastle’s
upcoming Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday
afternoon. Wissa still appears to be finding his rhythm, having missed a
chunk of the season with injury, which means Howe simply can’t put all
his chips on him just yet.

Newcastle fans inside St James’ Park certainly wanted more from Wissa
against City, and that sentiment is one that is shared by those
watching at home. Reacting to the striker’s performance on social media,
one supporter wrote: “Yoanne Wissa has been shocking this game.”

That was echoed by another, who said: “Wissa is having a nightmare.” And one more added: “Wissa flops again.” Labelled
‘woeful’ by a fellow Newcastle supporter, another, reflecting on his
first half performance, said: “Poor first half from Wissa. Need to win
this first leg.” A separate user tweeted: “Wissa was
absolutely useless tonight.” And a final supporter said: “Wissa was a
waste of money, please take that number from him!”
