NafisaEverton have made an official bid to sign Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri, according to GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano.
The Toffees are looking to bring in a new centre-forward to boost David Moyes’ squad this month, with the Merseyside outfit scoring just 23 goals in 21 Premier League matches this season.
Romano says that negotiations are underway between Everton and the Turkish giants over a deal for the Moroccan international, which would be an initial loan with an option to buy.
The club is yet to sign a new player during the January transfer window, with attack and right-back two areas they could look at before the February 2 deadline.
Everton Make En-Nesyri Bid With £17m Buy Option
According to Romano, while posting on his X account on Wednesday morning, Everton are in talks with Fenerbahce over a move to bring En-Nesyri to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this month.
The Toffees are hopeful of agreeing a temporary move now with a view to a £17m transfer in the summer, with Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reporting that the Istanbul-based club are open to either a loan or permanent transfer before the February 2 deadline for UK clubs.
En-Nesyri is on a long-term contract at Fenerbahce, which doesn’t expire until the summer of 2029.
En-Nesyri Could be Huge Coup for Everton
The 28-year-old is a proven goalscorer and has been representing his country at AFCON in recent weeks, with his form for Fenerbahce this season and in general suggesting he will bring goals to Everton.
The 6 ft 2 centre-forward is physical and has scored 38 goals in 77 appearances for the Turkish club – a rate of one goal every two games.
En-Nesyri also netted 73 goals in 196 appearances for Sevilla previously, and he has shown his ability to score regularly at an elite level with an impressive 10 goals in 20 Champions League outings during his career.
Moyes Has Publicly Praised En-Nesyri
Moyes’ interest in the Moroccan shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, given his comments during the 2022 World Cup in his column for the Times.
The Scottish manager wrote:
Though Morocco might find keeping another clean sheet tough, given the step up in level, there is more to them than just defending – in Youssef En-Nesyri they have a centre forward who is an incredible good runner and gives them an outlet.
Backing him up is Hakim Ziyech – so when they counterattack, they have good enough players to be a threat.
Everton will hope they can now pull off a deal for a striker who Moyes clearly believes in and will add to their squad alongside Thierno Barry and Beto.
