Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been torn into by Michael Dawson for an “absolute howler” in the Blues’ clash with Tottenham.
Sean Dyche’s side’s winless start to the Premier League season continued in North London on Saturday (24 August) as they lost 4-0 to Spurs thanks to goals from Yves Bissouma, Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero.
While the entirety of Dyche’s starting XI looked off of the pace, Sky Sports pundit Dawson was quick to slam Pickford for being far too slow on the ball in the lead-up to Son’s strike midway through the first half.
Speaking on Sky Sports Football on Saturday (24 August, 15:26) he said: “Oh my word, I said about Jordan Pickford having to make saves.
“What an absolute howler. Dixon throws the ball back from the halfway line to James Tarkowski. He’s very deep, he plays the ball back to Jordan Pickford. He looks like he’s got a day and night, anyway, Son thinks I’m closing this down.
“Pickford takes a touch, Son nicks it off him, takes it around him and puts it in the back of the net.

Pickford had seemed to have begun to cut these sorts of comical errors out of his game last season, but the England international embarrassed himself in the clash with Tottenham.
Having made a string of impressive saves to keep the Toffees in the contest early on, he then put his side straight back on the back foot as he dallied with the ball at his feet and presented Son with a goalscoring chance.
The South Korean international won’t score an easier goal this season and the Everton stopper was left with an egg on his face. If the Toffees want to dodge the drop this term, they cannot afford to make too many errors like that.
Some pundits have suggested that Pickford may look to leave Goodison Park in the near future if the Blues don’t manage to pull away from the bottom three.
Unless he cuts out errors like that, he’ll find it hard to find a club ready to take him on.
