Rangers are in line to make a significant profit on a player who was brought to Ibrox in the summer.

Recruitment has been a buzzword at Rangers over the last 12 months, and in January, the Gers have certainly done plenty of it.

Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen have all made the move to Glasgow, the latter of whom has joined on a loan-to-buy deal from Wolfsburg.

However, it was a deal that was agreed in the summer that has Rangers on course to make a profit, as well as the club he joined from.

Emmanuel Fernandez set to line Rangers’ pockets

Rangers signed 14 new players in the summer transfer window, and among them was Emmanuel Fernandez, who joined the Glasgow club on a four-year deal from Peterborough after rejecting a move to Norwich City.

It took the 24-year-old some time to adapt to his new surroundings, but his performances under Danny Rohl have improved tenfold, though the same could be said for several players at Ibrox.

Fernandez has started 12 of the 13 Scottish Premiership matches he has featured in, while also having four goals to his name.

The deal cost the Light Blues a fee in the region of £3.5million, but Peterborough director Barry Bry insists that they will still make a profit on the defender down the line, while also reiterating the clause that the EFL side inserted into the deal, which will benefit them.

Via the Daily Record, Fry said: “Manny has enormous potential. He’s 6ft 5ins, he can head a ball – and he can play.

“We had a £3 million bid from Norwich City for Manny, which we nearly accepted, but he turned that move down. Then we had Italian and Belgian clubs interested as well.

“That’s why it took us around five weeks to get the deal done with Rangers. But we got a good deal, which includes a sell-on and a few add-ons, including goals.

“But trust me, Rangers will make millions on Manny.”

Danny Rohl’s patience with Fernandez has evidently paid off

As mentioned above, Fernandez was looking on course to be a flop at Rangers, but Rohl’s faith in the defender has ultimately brought the best out of him.

The 24-year-old was guilty of some sloppy errors towards the early stages of the campaign, and the easy decision would have been to take him out of the spotlight and give him some time to recover.

Rohl opted against that for the most part and stuck with the Englishman, and even backed Fernandez in a post-match interview after a loss.

Back in December, when Rangers suffered defeat against Ferencvaros, Rohl said: “All in all, Manny [Fernandez] and Nasser [Djiga], I see big steps forward. I am more angry about how we have our position for the long ball.

“I will never blame one player for one action.“

Every mistake is a learning curve for the former EFL defender, who is getting better and better with more exposure to Scottish football.
