Leeds United icon Kalvin Phillips has ended up on loan at Ipswich Town from Manchester City after his spell at West Ham last season, but he had an impact on a Leeds exit too this summer.
It has been two years since the Euro 2020 finalist left Leeds to join Pep Guardiola’s side, where he has since struggled to find his best form. A loan at West Ham hardly improved the situation during 2023-24.
The England star now finds himself alongside Leif Davis and Jack Clarke at Ipswich, tasked with helping Kieran McKenna’s side avoid relegation. An Ipswich side that pipped Leeds to an instant promotion.
Failure to get promoted has seen plenty of big players leave Leeds, in the form of Georginio Rutter, Glen Kamara, Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville. The Dutchman joined West Ham for an initial £25m fee.

Despite his struggles at West Ham, Phillips was asked about West Ham by Summerville ahead of his move to the Hammers. Of course, things are a lot different at West Ham this term, compared to last season.
But The Athletic reports that Summerville quizzed Phillips on a potential move to The London Stadium before completing his move to West Ham. A deal that could see West Ham pay £34m for Summerville.
Phillips is said to have praised those working behind the scenes at West Ham, the player-care team and how ‘likeable’ he found the Hammers squad, which has changed a lot over the last couple of months.

It has been a slow start to life at the London Stadium for Summerville. Just one start in West Ham’s three games, coming in the Carabao Cup in a 1-0 win over Bournemouth in which he lasted 74 minutes.
Summerville has only managed to feature in two of West Ham’s three Premier League games. West Ham have had a tough start, losing to Aston Villa and Man City and Summerville came on as a sub in both.
But he was an unused sub in West Ham’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and it might be that Summerville needs an injury or a slice of luck to o his way before making that breakthrough into the Hammers side.
