Danny Rohl has urged the angsty Ibrox support to cut his side some slack after watching resurgent Rangers slash Hearts’ Premiership lead to three points.

The Light Blues found themselves a goal and a man up inside four minutes against Kilmarnock as Neil McCann’s side conceded a penalty and had Dom Thompson sent off.

James Tavernier tucked home the spot-kick but when the hosts failed to add to their lead, Rohl was shocked to see his team being booed off at the break.

Danny Rohl eventually overcame their first-half jitters to win handsomely through strikes from Bojan Miovski, Andreas Skov-Olsen, Oliver Antman and Mikey Moore once 10-man Killie ran out of gas.

But Rohl reckons his team deserve more patience from the stands after closing in on Premiership table-topping Jambos.

He said: “Yeah, I’ll be honest with you, I couldn’t understand this.

“I love our fans but today I was really surprised.”

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve spoken about ‘we’. We want to be together. We need the crowd.

“We led very early in the first half but I was really surprised [by the tension in the stands].“

But it’s my job then to give my players the right feeling for this game, the right instruction.

“In some moments we forget which position we were in 10 weeks ago. It was not me, it was my group who came from 13 points down to now just three points.“

Maybe this deserves sometimes a little bit of positive energy.

“We try to influence our fans.“

I’ve learned a lot in the last three months about the club, about the demands.

“In some moments I can understand, in some moments I can’t agree.“

But let’s do it together as a ‘we’, and if you do it as a ‘we’ it’s much more fun and you can enjoy it because if you score after four minutes, I think it’s not a bad opener in such a game.

“Let’s go in one direction together until the end – if we do this then maybe we have a great finish.”

Gers now face a Scottish Cup rematch with last year’s shock conquerors Queen’s Park on Sunday.

Then it’s on to a crucial Premiership double header with Motherwell and Hearts.

Rohl – speaking after watching his side bounced back from a disappointing draw with Hibs on Sunday – added: “I’m more than proud of my group at the moment.

“I think now we have 10 games, nine wins, one draw – except for the Porto game.“

We go to Motherwell, which is a tough one. We spoke after Hibs how big that draw was. We are disappointed but sometimes a draw is helpful.

“Two days later we sit here now, from six points behind now we are down by three.”
