The plaudits Celtic have been receiving for the League Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen have been well deserved this week.
The way Celtic dismantled Aberdeen sent a big message to Jimmy Thelin’s men that they have a bit to go if they consider themselves genuine and realistic title contenders to the Bhoys.
The win was very convincing and, for once, came with no real controversial VAR or match refereeing decisions.
Well, there would have been if Kris Boyd got his way.
Brendan Rodgers ‘very lucky’ not to see red vs Aberdeen
Brendan Rodgers was booked for Celtic after kicking the ball after a touchline rant saw the Hoops boss slip and fall much to the delight of the packed Hampden support.
The incident passed with a little bit of humour between Rodgers and the match referee but Boyd reckons the Celtic manager was ‘very lucky’ not to have seen red.
Boyd told Go Ballistic, “It’ll be interesting to see if Brendan Rodgers where he would rank that performance.
“You know his first spell and his second spell because, for me, it would have been right up there because I thought they were they were outstanding.
But should he have been sent off?
“I think he’s very lucky. I think we saw Derek McInnes had been sent off for something similar at Dens Park was it last year or the year before?
Celtic have caused Kris Boyd a few headaches already this season
Celtic have caused Kris Boyd to go on a few rants already this season as the Scottish champions increase the gap both on and off the park to Rangers.
Boyd labelled Rangers ’embarrassing’ after Celtic hammered his old club 3-0 in the Scottish Premiership this season.
The former Rangers striker was then forced to admit Celtic will canter the league this season as he predicted the Hoops would be ahead of the Ibrox club by ‘a few good points’.
Celtic then left Boyd fuming two weeks ago after Rangers’ defeat to Kilmarnock meant that drawing with Aberdeen 24 hours earlier actually increased the gap at the top of the table.
Boyd is having a tough season because of Celtic and the fans are likely, and happily, going to see more meltdowns from the former Rangers man over the coming weeks.
