Celtic head into their next Champions League tie against RB Leipzig buoyed by the 6-0 hammering of Aberdeen at the weekend.
Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic punished Aberdeen in the League Cup and sent a message to the rest of Scottish football that if the Pittodrie club really want to challenge their dominance, they still have a lot of work to do.
However, in the Champions League, it seems that the perception of Celtic has changed after Rodgers pulled a masterclass in Atalanta and earned a point in Bergamo to boost the team’s confidence ahead of the RB Leipzig game.
And it seems that result may have changed opinions in Germany after Bundesliga expert, Ben Post, shared how people in his homeland view Celtic now.
RB Leipzig ‘hope’ to beat Celtic in Champions League
After Celtic lost 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund, the view in Germany may be that this game in Glasgow is going to be easy for RB Leipzig. Not so says Post.
Post told Go Ballistic, “No, because of the three lost games they are looking at what RB Leipzig will do at Celtic in the Champions League and the other five games they went out.
“But they hope they will win at Celtic because they did it before two years ago and it was a good opportunity.
“And it’s a different opinion about this match. Some people say, ‘Oh they’re not good in the Champions League’ and other people say, ‘They have to win now’ and when they have to win, they win.
They need, I think, seven to 10 points to go in the final round so they have to start to win, maybe in Glasgow.
Every game Celtic have played RB Leipzig in Europe
Celtic have faced RB Leipzig on four different occasions in two European tournaments. The Hoops have won just one and lost the other three.
Both teams first met in the Europa League in 2018 where Celtic lost 2-0 in Germany. In the return leg, Celtic got their revenge after they beat the Bundesliga club 2-1 at Celtic with goals from Kieran Tierney and Odsonne Edouard securing the win.
However, Celtic has faced Leipzig twice in the Champions League already and has suffered a 3-1 defeat in Germany and a 2-0 loss at Celtic Park in 2022.
Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to avenge those results with a win tonight as the Celtic boss looks to take another step closer to qualifying from the league phase.
