Liverpool Confirm High-Profile Coaching Addition as Former European Finalist Joins Arne Slot’s Staff


Liverpool have officially welcomed Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their new assistant coach, pending visa approval. The Dutchman, who previously led Rangers to the 2022 Europa League final, will work alongside fellow countryman and head coach Arne Slot.

A seasoned figure in both playing and managerial roles, Van Bronckhorst brings a wealth of experience to Anfield. During his decorated playing days, he represented top clubs including Feyenoord, Rangers, Arsenal, and Barcelona, and was part of the Netherlands team that reached the 2010 World Cup final.

After hanging up his boots in 2010, he began his coaching journey as an assistant at Feyenoord before being promoted to head coach in 2015. His time there yielded a league title in 2016–17 and two domestic cups. He later managed Guangzhou R&F in China before returning to Europe to take charge of Rangers, where he lifted the Scottish Cup and guided them to the brink of European glory. Most recently, he had a short spell at Besiktas, leaving the Turkish club in late 2024.

Now, Van Bronckhorst reunites with Dutch football at the heart of Liverpool’s new-look coaching team, tasked with helping the Premier League champions maintain their domestic and continental ambitions.
