Brighton Appoint “Outstanding” Goalkeeping Coach in Major Backroom Boost After Leicester Exit
Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the appointment of Jelle ten Rouwelaar as their new goalkeeping coach, with head coach Fabian Hürzeler hailing the Dutchman as an “outstanding” addition to the club’s backroom staff.
Hürzeler expressed his delight at the capture, highlighting Ten Rouwelaar’s extensive experience across top European leagues and the Premier League.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge and will significantly strengthen our coaching team,” said the Brighton boss.
Ten Rouwelaar, 44, most recently worked at Leicester City from November 2024 and arrives at the Amex Stadium with an impressive résumé.
He is widely admired for his ability to nurture top-level goalkeeping talent and his forward-thinking training techniques.
His coaching career has seen him take on roles at prestigious clubs including NAC Breda, Burnley, Anderlecht, and Manchester United.
Notably, during his time at Anderlecht, he worked closely with current Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
He has also contributed to the development of young talent through his work with the Dutch U20 national team.
Before moving into coaching, Ten Rouwelaar enjoyed a lengthy playing career, racking up nearly 500 appearances across eight clubs, most notably making close to 400 appearances for NAC Breda in the Netherlands.
