Graham Potter has been tipped as The Friedkin Group’s (TFG) frontrunner to replace Sean Dyche at Everton, by Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports journalist believes that the American billionaires would want someone who is “ready and waiting to take the job”.
Potter is currently out of a role after getting sacked by Chelsea in April 2023 after just seven months.
Myers adds that the club is already considering sacking Dyche. He says an “assessment” has been “ongoing” following their 1-0 loss to Bournemouth on 4 January.
The Englishman didn’t do himself any favours with his comments after the match claiming that the run of one win in 12 games “doesn’t look bad on paper, if there had been a few wins”.
The Friedkin Group are ready to make big calls at Everton
TFG acquired a majority controlling stake in Everton from Farhad Moshiri back in December.
Dyche has already been in discussions with the club’s hierarchy regarding his position this season. This is despite reports indicating that the group has no immediate plans to dismiss him.
However, the Merseyside club may need to accelerate that timeline due to their dismal run of form. They are currently sitting 16th in the Premier League table.
Consequently, Myers has highlighted the mounting pressure on Dyche. He pointed to poor results and a fan base increasingly calling for his dismissal. This sentiment may push the new owners to make a significant decision sooner rather than later.
Potter has been attracting interest from several clubs this season, with West Ham United being the most strongly linked if they are to replace Julen Lopetegui.
If Everton’s new owners can act swiftly to bring in the English coach, a beat the Hammers to it, they would quickly win fans over. It would signal to them their willingness to make bold, decisive moves early in their tenure. Such a statement of intent is likely to be well received.
