Celtic and Rangers fans believe the Glasgow Derby is one of the biggest and best in world football.

Just this season alone, the three games between Celtic and Rangers have produced 12 goals, a cup win and two exciting Glasgow Derby’s that have seen both clubs each share a victory in the Scottish Premiership.

Despite Celtic running away with the league, the Glasgow Derby has been the most talked-about games this season.

However, Dundee striker, Simon Murray has made a claim about the Dundee Derby that both Celtic and Rangers fans will scoff at.

Simon Murray claims Dundee vs Dundee Utd is better than Celtic vs Rangers games
Speaking before Celtic’s draw with Dundee, Murray said the Dundee Derby has been the best derby in Scotland ‘for years’.

Murray told The Courier, “That’s the one, if you’re from Dundee, you’re a Dundee player, that’s the game for me.

“Probably the best derby in the country in terms of entertainment. Has been for years.

“And to be a part of that will be amazing. I see it’s sold out. So the fans are right behind us and I’m sure theirs will be, too.

We’re at home and we just have to enjoy it and hopefully get the three points.

“For any player, when you’re a kid and get to play in games of that magnitude.”

Comparing Dundee vs Dundee United and Celtic vs Rangers as both derbies come under the spotlight
Let’s start with the Dundee Derby. Both teams have faced each other just 50 times since 1980 with the Dens Park side winning just 14, losing 21 and drawing 15.

Dundee has scored 71 goals compared to United’s 89 with the largest wins being two 6-2 victories for the Tannadice club.

Compare that to Celtic vs Rangers where both Glasgow giants have met each other 128 times over the same timeframe with the Hoops winning 62 and Rangers 47.

19 draws have been played out with Celtic’s most recent League Cup final win arguably the most tense Derby there has been.

Celtic have scored 199 goals against Rangers with the Ibrox club netting 164 with the 6-2 Celtic Park win being one of the most memorable in the recent history of the derby.

So whilst Murray’s sentiment is well-placed, the Dundee Derby brings nowhere near the same kind of excitement the Glasgow Derby does.
