“Premier League Giants Plot Shock Raid for Top-Flight Newcomer After Fabrizio Romano Bombshell – Sunderland Rocked as Transfer Twist Threatens to Derail Dream Signing!”

Liverpool Eye Move for Sunderland-Linked Defender as Transfer Battle Brews Over Ex-Leeds Star

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring former Leeds United centre-back Charlie Cresswell, who has also been linked with a potential move to Sunderland. The 22-year-old, now playing for Toulouse in France, has attracted significant attention following a series of strong performances, particularly at the Under-21 European Championship.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that Toulouse are open to selling Cresswell this summer if the right bid comes in. On X, Romano posted: “Charlie Cresswell can leave Toulouse this summer as Premier League and Serie A clubs have started moving. Talks to follow for the 22-year-old defender after his recent performances.”

Sunderland, one of the Championship’s promotion hopefuls, are understood to be among the clubs keeping tabs on the England youth international. Mick Brown, the Black Cats’ former chief scout, confirmed that the club has had eyes on Cresswell during recent scouting missions. Speaking to Football Insider, Brown stated
“Sunderland have been watching Cresswell. Their scouts were impressed by him at the Under-21 Euros. Lots of clubs were at that tournament, and it’s common for breakout players to move afterward. While signing players based solely on tournament displays is risky, Cresswell’s consistency is catching attention.”

He added that clubs like Sunderland would also be familiar with the defender from his time in English football. Cresswell left Leeds United just last year, but any return to England would likely come at a premium, given the competition and his growing reputation.

However, Sunderland could face stiff competition for his signature. Premier League giants Liverpool are said to be weighing up a potential move. According to GiveMeSport, Cresswell is on a list of defensive options being evaluated by new manager Arne Slot as the club considers long-term replacements in defence, particularly with Virgil van Dijk nearing the twilight of his career.

The report emphasizes that while no formal bid has been made yet, Liverpool have a strong interest in Cresswell and may act if the opportunity aligns with their squad-building plans. The Merseyside club is expected to seek a centre-back either this summer or in the near future to provide depth and develop into a regular starter.

With both Sunderland and Liverpool watching closely, the coming weeks could see a major tug-of-war for one of England’s most intriguing young defensive prospects.
