Leeds United are already working hard behind the scenes since the season ended. The Whites hit the 100-point mark, won promotion and secured the league title on the final day. Now the club have to prepare for the Premier League next season.
Daniel Farke and the recruitment team have a huge task on their hands to build a squad for the English top flight. Leeds club chairman Paraag Marathe has told the team and the fans that he wants to help them maintain their status in the Premier League. Following that came reports that Leeds would have around £150million to spend on transfers this summer.
Leeds United could trigger release clause for former Premier League star
According to Africa Foot, Leeds and Rangers are leading the chase to sign Standard Liege winger Moussa Djenepo. The Malian is currently on loan at Antalyaspor. The Turkish club have an option to buy included in the loan deal. But the report indicates that Djenepo is not keen on making a permanent move to Turkey.
There is also a £1.7million release clause in his contract, and the report claims Leeds are keen on triggering it. Djenepo spent four seasons in the Premier League with Southampton, making over 70 appearances.
Djenepo’s new role could be exactly what Leeds need
When Moussa Djenepo arrived in England, he was a winger. However, after a few seasons, some coaches tried him as a wingback. And the experiment was sort of a success. Djenepo does not have the output to be a wide attacker, but his ability on the ball makes him very valuable out wide.
This was part of the reason why he has been used at fullback/wingback for the past few seasons. He ranked top 10 in the Belgian league last season for Successful take-ons and carries into the penalty area. For those with questions over his defensive ability, he has been quite decent off the ball.
In Turkey, he has moved back to playing in attacking midfield, but Leeds could convince him to play a different role.
