Qudus SalihuRangers manager Danny Rohl delivered a sensational and utterly brutal assessment of his squad in a post-match interview, publicly naming two players who he believes must leave the club in January to facilitate his squad overhaul. In comments nobody saw coming, Rohl singled out midfielder Kieran Dowell and forward Bojan Miovski as surplus to requirements.
The German coach, keen to shape his own team and raise the overall quality at Ibrox, did not mince his words, indicating a “non-negotiable” clear-out is needed for the team to challenge their rivals.
Dowell Deemed ‘Not a Fit’
Regarding Kieran Dowell, who has struggled for consistent game time and fitness since his arrival, Rohl was blunt. “Kieran is a gifted player, but he is not a fit for the intensity and the high-pressing system we are building,” Rohl stated. “For his career, and for the club’s financial balance, he must find a new challenge. We cannot carry players who only suit one system or whose availability is a constant question mark.”
Miovski Exit to Fund Key Signings
The inclusion of Bojan Miovski (who is currently at Aberdeen, not Rangers) was perhaps the most surprising move, revealing Rohl’s ruthless approach to recruitment. Rohl is understood to be targeting the Aberdeen striker, but his public statement was a message to the Rangers board.
”Miovski is a very talented player, and it is a known fact he will command a substantial fee in January,” Rohl explained. “This is a reality of football. To bring in the three or four players we need to make us title contenders, we must be creative. The sale of assets—even those who have delivered—is essential to fund the calibre of striker we truly require. It is a painful decision, but a necessary one for the long-term success of Rangers.”
The manager’s cold, hard stance puts immediate pressure on the Rangers hierarchy to deliver a tough January window and indicates that Rohl is ready to be utterly ruthless to implement his vision.
