Rangers’ summer signing Oliver Antman was tipped to be an exciting addition when he arrived from Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles, but his early months at Ibrox have been far from straightforward.
The Finnish international made a promising debut against Viktoria Plzen, registering two assists, but has since found it difficult to replicate that spark. Across six appearances, Antman has failed to score and has looked short of the confidence needed to truly ignite Rangers’ faltering attack.
Manager Russell Martin’s system has come under scrutiny, with few of the forwards managing to hit their stride. Antman, once viewed as a potential game-changer, now looks emblematic of a broader problem—Rangers’ inability to generate consistent creativity and goals.
His struggles carried over into the international break as well. Starting for Finland in a 3-1 World Cup qualifying defeat to Poland, Antman failed to influence proceedings. Lasting just 64 minutes before being substituted, he ended the game without registering a shot, chance created, or successful dribble. Former Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara came off the bench during the reshuffle, while Antman’s quiet display only compounded the concerns back in Glasgow.
The 24-year-old has already been shifted from his usual right-wing position at Rangers to the left flank for Finland, but the change offered little improvement. As the games tick by without a goal contribution beyond his debut, the pressure will only grow on Antman to deliver.
For now, his form mirrors the wider attacking malaise at Ibrox, where several new signings are still struggling to adapt. Unless the tide turns soon, both Antman and Rangers risk falling further behind in their pursuit of attacking fluency and results.
