NafisaCeltic are in search of that striker this summer following Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit in January.
You can’t say that it’s ‘much-needed’, because Daizen Maeda has gone goal crazy after being deployed in that centre-forward role, with Adam Idah the back-up option.
But, of course, Jota suffered a long-term injury, and it now leaves Celtic short on the wide left, which puts more emphasis on Maeda, so more help is required and goals are needed.
Plus, Brendan Rodgers hasn’t got his Kyogo replacement, after he left in the winter and wasn’t replaced by the champions of Scotland.
Many strikers have been tipped to join Celtic, including rumours of Kyogo possibly coming back, but another player familiar to Scottish fans has also been suggested.
Bojan Miovski backed to secure Celtic transfer after ‘struggling’ like Kyogo Furuhashi
Bojan Miovski spent two seasons at Aberdeen and became a fan favourite during his time at Pittodrie, before leaving last summer and joining Champions League side Girona for a transfer fee upward of £6.5 million.
But just like Kyogo at Rennes, it hasn’t gone to plan for the 25-year-old, and now he is being tipped to make a return to Scotland.
Jim Duffy has backed the idea of Celtic signing Miovski, and also noted how he was a ‘shining light’ for a difficult Aberdeen side, as he told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
We spoke about Daizen Maeda, and Adam Idah is there as well,” said Roger Hannah. “Could you see Celtic going out and getting Bojan Miovski, bearing in mind he cost £6 million last summer when he went to Spain?”
Duffy responded: “I must admit, I did like him when he was at Aberdeen. I thought he was terrific, in a very poor Aberdeen team, you have to say.
“He stood out. He was a shining light there. Scored a good number of goals. A good link-up player. Left-footed. He was certainly a star there.
“If he can recapture some of that form, and sometimes you go to a club and you just don’t fit. We have seen it with Kyogo, who is struggling at Rennes.
“I think the style of player he is, the movement and link-up play. I think he would be a good signing for Celtic. I think you would get him for a fraction, possibly a loan to start with, and then a buy-out clause. He knows the Scottish game. Scores goals. I wouldn’t rule that one out.
Miovski’s record in Scotland
In terms of profile, Miovski still has levels to hit, because he turns 26 in June, so from a financial sense, it would be worth the gamble.
It also needs to be noted that the North Macedonia star has valuable experience of the Scottish game, so it would be another tick in the box for Celtic and Rodgers.
The only downside is his lack of experience on the European stage, as Celtic fans want a more proven player who can help them continue their progression in the Champions League.
