Marshall Munetsi has cheekily fired shots at Manchester United after reflecting on his first half-season in English football, following his £16.6 million move to Wolves from Stade Reims in January.
The Zimbabwean midfielder, typically known for his tireless box-to-box play, was surprisingly deployed in an advanced attacking role by boss Vitor Pereira, linking up with Jorgen Strand Larsen. Despite criticism from fans who questioned his technical contribution, Munetsi managed to score twice in 14 appearances — and has vowed to elevate his game in the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
But what really stole the headlines was Munetsi’s not-so-subtle dig at Manchester United. While discussing the intensity of the Premier League, he listed United among clubs like Southampton and Crystal Palace when referring to supposedly “easy” matchups — a savage jab considering Wolves managed a league double over the Red Devils for the first time in 45 years.
“I think it’s hard because every game is not easy — even if you’re playing Southampton, Crystal Palace, or Manchester United,” Munetsi quipped, before praising the league’s quality and promising to be even better next season.
His comments come just days after United signed former Wolves star Matheus Cunha in a £62.5 million shock transfer. While many outsiders expect Wolves to falter without their top scorer, Munetsi disagrees. He recalled a stretch when Cunha was suspended — a period in which Wolves still won three of four matches — as proof that the team can thrive without him.
“We pushed as a team. People thought we’d collapse without Matheus, but we showed our strength,” Munetsi said.
With a jab at United, confidence in the squad, and a promise to improve, Munetsi has certainly made his mark — on and off the pitch.
