Toti Gomes Backs Wolves Rebuild: “We’ll Come Back Stronger After Summer Shake-Up”
Wolves defender Toti Gomes believes the club is on track to emerge even stronger next season following a major summer overhaul, both on and off the pitch.
Wolves have already seen high-profile departures, including forward Matheus Cunha and full-back Rayan Aït-Nouri, as well as the exit of sporting director Matt Hobbs. In response, the club has reshaped its leadership structure, appointing Domenico Tedi as the new director of football. Fer Lopez was recently unveiled as the first signing under the new regime.
Now entering his sixth season at Molineux, Toti remains calm amid the changes. Speaking to the club’s official media, he said:
“This kind of transition is part of football. Every year there are players who leave and others who come in. The key is for those who remain to give their all. When the new players arrive, we’ll help them settle quickly so they can adapt to the team and the Premier League.”
Toti also noted that while the squad hasn’t set explicit goals for the coming season, there’s a collective belief that the team can perform at a higher level under manager Vitor Pereira:
“We’re not talking about specific targets just yet, but we’re confident we’ll return stronger and put Vitor’s ideas into action.”
Toti went on to reflect on the significant turnaround Wolves experienced after Pereira replaced Gary O’Neil last December. At the time of the managerial switch, Wolves were just five points above the relegation zone, with survival far from guaranteed.
“There was a moment when we felt relegation was becoming a real threat,” Toti admitted. “It affected us mentally. But once Vitor arrived, everything changed. He instilled belief, shifted our approach, and results started coming. From his first game, we began winning, and slowly the fear lifted.”
Toti, who became a fixture in the starting XI under Pereira, playing every minute after his arrival, praised the new system and the tactical work done on the training ground:
“I’ve enjoyed my role at left centre-back. We’ve been working hard to bring Vitor’s ideas to life, and it showed on the pitch.”
Wolves ended the season comfortably above the drop zone, finishing 17 points clear—a dramatic shift from where they stood just months earlier. With fresh energy, a revamped leadership team, and growing belief, Wolves look to enter the new season ready to climb the table.
