Free Agent Champions League Star Keen on Ibrox Switch as Rangers Face Double Exit Blow Up Front
Glasgow Rangers could soon have the chance to bolster their attacking line with a seasoned Champions League striker, as Luuk de Jong is reportedly open to a move to Ibrox this summer.
With manager Russell Martin preparing for both domestic silverware and a crucial Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos next month, his attacking plans may be disrupted. Key forwards Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane are both being heavily linked with exits, raising the urgency for fresh firepower.
Dessers is reportedly close to agreeing a Ā£30,000-a-week deal with Greek giants AEK Athens, although Rangers have rejected an initial Ā£4.5 million bid, with negotiations ongoing. Meanwhile, Igamane is also edging toward the exit, having agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 side Lilleāthough, again, the clubs are yet to settle on a transfer fee.
Should both forwards leave, Martin will be in dire need of replacements ahead of the 2025/26 campaignāand one prolific veteran may be ready to step in.
Dutch striker Luuk de Jong is expected to become a free agent at the end of June as his contract with PSV Eindhoven nears expiry. According to reports from the Netherlands, via The Daily Record, the 34-year-old is open to joining Rangers, with the Dutch club looking to make Ricardo Pepi their main striker next season.
De Jong, a 6ft 2in frontman with an illustrious career across the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany, captained PSV throughout the 2024/25 season, including in the Champions League. With 290 career goalsāincluding 113 with his headāhis pedigree is unquestionable.
Heās earned high praise from former Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman, who once claimed De Jong was āmore dangerous than Neymarā when attacking crosses. His aerial prowess, leadership, and European experience could make him an ideal short-term solution for Rangers as they prepare for a potentially transformative campaign.
