Wolves Close in on “Highly-Rated” Defensive Target Who’s Eager for Premier League Move


Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of securing a deal for Rennes centre-back Christopher Wooh, who is reportedly keen on securing a move to the Premier League this summer.

Manager Vitor Pereira is looking to reinforce his backline after a defensively turbulent 2024/25 campaign, during which Wolves conceded 69 goals  ten more than expected based on their xG against of 59.01. This glaring issue has pushed the club to prioritise defensive reinforcements in the current transfer window.

While there was initial contact with Brighton’s Igor Julio, the Brazilian is believed to favour a switch to Real Sociedad in Spain, leaving Wolves to pursue alternatives. One promising option is Cameroon international Christopher Wooh, who now looks to be edging closer to a move to Molineux.

According to reports from Turkish sources (via Sport Witness), the Old Gold are progressing well in their pursuit of the 23-year-old, and a deal worth approximately €5m (£4.3m) could be on the cards. Turkish side Trabzonspor were previously in contention, with president Ertugrul Doğan revealing that an agreement with Rennes had been reached. However, Wooh’s desire to play in England appears to have turned the tide in Wolves’ favour.

“We signed a preliminary protocol with Rennes,” Doğan stated. “But the player wants to go to the Premier League. He’s in talks with another club.”

Wooh, once dubbed “highly-rated” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, has since become a mainstay at Rennes and a regular for the Cameroon national team. His standout moment came during the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, when he scored a dramatic late winner against Gambia to help his nation advance.

Standing at 6ft 3in, the powerful defender could prove to be a cost-effective yet impactful signing for Wolves  especially given their need for defensive solidity. With the player’s Premier League ambitions aligning with the club’s needs, a deal now seems increasingly likely.
