Rodgers Bombarded with Transfer Interest as Celtic Eye Windfall and Rangers Face Bid Battle for Former Star


With the 2025/26 campaign rapidly approaching, Celtic and Rangers are ramping up their preparations as both clubs enter pre-season action.

Brendan Rodgers and new Rangers boss Russell Martin are each laying the groundwork for a crucial season ahead.

At Ibrox, it’s been a flurry of activity as Rangers continue their squad overhaul. The past week has seen the arrivals of Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, and Thelo Aasgaard, significantly boosting Martin’s options. And the recruitment drive isn’t slowing down  reports suggest a loan deal for Wolves centre-back Nasser Djiga is nearing completion, with more new faces expected soon.

Celtic, meanwhile, are on the verge of a financial boost thanks to Nicolas Kuhn’s imminent £17 million move to Serie A. But attention has also turned to the future of promising striker Johnny Kenny. The 22-year-old, who scored in a pre-season win over Queen’s Park on Friday, is attracting heavy loan interest. Manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that multiple clubs, including League One outfit Bolton Wanderers, have enquired about taking the Irish forward for the season.

However, Rodgers is reluctant to make a quick decision. He insists Kenny will be given a thorough evaluation during pre-season before a call is made on his next step. While the manager sees the striker as a long-term asset for the Hoops, he admits a loan move might serve the player’s development better  if the right opportunity arises.

Over in Germany, a former Rangers fan-favorite is attracting interest of his own. Czech winger Vaclav Cerny, who impressed with 18 goals during his loan stint at Rangers last season, has returned to Wolfsburg.

The Bundesliga side have reportedly set a £9 million asking price for the 26-year-old, effectively ruling out a permanent return to Glasgow.

That hasn’t stopped interest elsewhere. Turkish powerhouse Besiktas have reportedly submitted a cut-price offer for Cerny, though it falls short of Wolfsburg’s valuation.

Meanwhile, league rivals Trabzonspor are said to be more willing to meet the Bundesliga side’s demands as they rebuild their squad this summer.

The latest developments highlight a busy transfer window for both halves of the Old Firm, with key decisions still to be made in the coming weeks.
