Rangers Star’s Future in Doubt as Russell Martin Eyes New Goalkeeper Amid Transfer Shuffle


Jack Butland’s future at Rangers is reportedly uncertain as new manager Russell Martin continues his search for a fresh face between the posts. The Ibrox boss has been linked with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carl Rushworth, although a report from SunSport suggests that a move for the 24-year-old is now considered ‘unlikely’.

Instead, the club may explore other loan options  a development that has raised serious questions about Butland’s place in the squad moving forward.

Butland, who arrived in Glasgow during the summer of 2023 under former manager Michael Beale, initially impressed in his debut campaign.

However, his form dipped later in the season, leading to Liam Kelly taking over the No.1 spot.

Kelly retained his starting role in Rangers’ recent pre-season fixture against Club Brugge, a 2-2 draw at Ibrox  further fueling speculation about Butland’s status.

Speaking after the match, Martin hinted at more changes coming to the squad:
“I expect the team to look different again. The squad will look different in a week or two. So much can change in football, and I’m not entirely sure what will happen,” he said.
“We definitely want to bring in more players, and some will likely need to move on as well.

The squad is starting to feel a bit bloated.”
