Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman has reportedly entered the race to sign highly rated Portuguese-based teenager Suaibo Jassi, joining Leeds United and Brentford in pursuit of the promising right-back.

Jassi, who recently inked a three-year deal with CD Santa Clara, is said to be on the radar of multiple European outfits. Born in Guinea-Bissau, the young defender has been making waves with his mature displays, and although he has yet to break into Santa Clara’s first team, he is considered a player with high long-term potential.
Sunderland are said to be closely evaluating Jassi’s progress, with the idea of making a future move depending on his development and first-team exposure. The Black Cats are reportedly keen to bolster their defensive depth as they gear up for a demanding return to Premier League football.
Meanwhile, fellow defender Jenson Seelt has spoken candidly about his uncertain future amid speculation over a possible loan exit. Despite a 3-0 loss to Hearts in a recent pre-season friendly, Seelt impressed with his physicality and resilience, having missed the entire previous campaign due to a knee injury.
Speaking after the match, the 22-year-old Dutchman admitted that going out on loan remains an option, but reiterated his determination to fight for a place in Régis Le Bris’ squad.
