Nottingham Forest have appointed Sean Dyche as their new head coach, just days after Ange Postecoglou’s sacking.

After Nuno was given his marching orders in September, successor Posetcoglou lasted just 39 days in the job.The former Tottenham Hotspur boss was dismissed immediately after Forest’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, having failed to win any of his eight games in charge. And owner Evangelos Marinakis has moved quickly to find a replacement, turning to an experienced figure in Dyche.

Having first held talks with the 54-year-old during this month’s international break, negotiations ramped up after Postecoglou was sacked on Saturday, and they have now secured their man.

He will be joined by former Forest pair Steve Stone and Ian Woan in the dugout, after they were announced as assistants.

Dyche was chosen ahead of the likes of former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini, as well as Fulham head coach Marco Silva.

The east Midlands outfit held talks with Mancini, while PSR concerns put an end to their interest in Silva as they were reluctant to pay his release clause of up to £10million. Forest’s new boss will be hoping to make an instant impact in Europe, as he looks to bring some much-needed stability to the City Ground and revive his own career.

The Australian went winless across his whole tenure at the City GroundHe has previously taken charge of 332 Premier League matches across his spells with Burnley and the Toffees. The Englishman even guided the Clarets into Europe in 2018, thanks to a seventh-place Premier League finish.During his coaching career, Dyche has gained a reputation for building defensively sound teams capable of grinding out results. This is certainly a quality the Forest hierarchy will be keen to see reintroduced at the club, after Postecoglou’s brief tenure saw the side struggle for any kind of form. The 60-year-old replaced Nuno, who had guided the club to Europa League qualification in the 2024/25 campaign, in September. But a disastrous five-week stint under Postecoglou saw him leave Forest 17th in the league, and they have since dropped to 18th.

He oversaw six defeats during this time, including a shock 3-2 defeat to Championship side Swansea in the Carabao Cup, while his only draws came against Burnley and Real Betis in the Europa League.A demoralising 3-0 loss at home to Chelsea proved the final straw, with owner Marinakis storming out of the ground in the second half, and dismissing Postecoglou minutes after the full-time whistle.

The brutal sacking meant that the Aussie’s reign is now the shortest Premier League reign of any permanent manager in history.

But with Dyche now the man at the wheel, he will be hoping to transform Forest’s fortunes immediately, starting in the Europa League on Thursday.
