NafisaWolves are sticking by boss Vitor Pereira despite a disastrous start to the season, and Leeds United’s form is playing a part in Pereira retaining his job at Molineux.
Defeat to Burnley on Sunday was arguably Wolves’ worst result of the season so far. Pushing for a winner at 2-2, Pereira watched on in utter frustration as his side conceded late on, Burnley securing the victory.
After nine games, Wolves have just two points. It comes after a concerning transfer window in which Pereira lost Brazil star Matheus Cunha, a player Leeds had tried to sign during Marcelo Bielsa’s reign.
Pereira’s men sit rock-bottom in the Premier League table and are already six points adrift of safety. The Wolves gaffer signed a new contract just days before Leeds went to Molineux and beat Wolves 3-1.
Wolves board makes Pereira decision, and it includes Leeds
After Sunday’s loss to Burnley, the Wolves players made their way over to their fans to have it out with their disgruntled supporters. It appeared to anger Pereira, who seemed in a confrontational mood.
There are obvious calls for Pereira to be sacked, but so soon after being handed a new deal, it is unlikely the Wolves board would immediately go back on that decision. TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has the details.
Crook reported on social media: “Wolves sources insist Vitor Pereira is not under immediate threat despite 0 wins in 9. The board is clearly not happy with the results, and the situation could change.
“If they sense any dressing room unrest. There is also a realisation that newly-promoted clubs are more competitive,” clearly indicating that Leeds, Sunderland, and Burnley’s form has been taken into account.

Jamie Carragher verdict opposite of Wolves’ Pereira decision
Speaking earlier this season, while Aston Villa were struggling and Graham Potter remained in the West Ham hotseat, Carragher said the newly-promoted sides’ form was putting managers under pressure.
“Is the decision for owners this season different because the promoted teams are doing okay? They always thought that they would be alright. It may go back to the normal, the actual fear of relegation.”
Villa have since won four games in a row including Sunday’s win over Man City, while Potter has since become Sweden manager after his West Ham exit. But Wolves have chosen to go the opposite route.
They have given Pereira sympathy in light of Leeds, Sunderland and Burnley’s form. But it does already seem inevitable that Wolves will be one of the three sides to be relegated come the end of the season.
