‘A no-brainer’ – Premier League rival told to beat Leeds United to Ivan Toney in January – The Leeds Press

Ivan Toney wants to return to England in the winter transfer, and the former Brentford striker has been linked with a move to Leeds United. However, several Premier League clubs are in the fray for a forward who has a proven goalscoring record in the English top flight.

Toney was wanted at several Premier League clubs when he left Brentford to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli last year. He has been banging in goals for fun in the Middle East over the last season or so.

He wants to return to England in the winter window to boost his chances of getting into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup next season.

The striker believes a good second half of the season in the Premier League will earn him a place in the Three Lions team, and this has alerted several Premier League clubs ahead of the winter window.

Everton told to sign Leeds United target Ivan Toney

Everton boss David Moyes has already expressed interest in signing Toney in the winter transfer window. Still, now he is being told that this is too good an opportunity to pass up.

Former Premier League scout Mick Brown believes the former Brentford man is one of the best strikers in the world, and signing him on loan should be a no-brainer for Everton.

He feels that, given Everton’s status, under normal circumstances, they would not have been able to afford signing Toney, but signing him on loan would fit with what they want in January.

“Ivan Toney is certainly somebody Everton will look at”, Brown told Football Insider.

“Moyes is desperate to bring a new striker like Toney into his squad, and Toney is one of the best strikers who could be available if you look at his goalscoring record.

“If he’s available on loan, especially, it should be a no-brainer for Everton to make a move.

“If you look at who else is out there, they’ve either already moved or they’ll cost a huge fee.

“Everton can’t afford to go out and spend that sort of money, so the opportunity to sign somebody like Toney on loan is something they wouldn’t be able to pass up on.

“Plus, he’s an Everton-type player if that makes sense. He would fit in very well there.”

Toney on loan is a no-brainer for Leeds as well

The former Brentford man is the kind of clinical and proven Premier League goalscorer that Everton are lacking at this point.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has led the line well, but has been wasteful in front of goal, scoring just once in the Premier League this season.

Leeds need more efficiency inside the penalty box, and Toney is exactly the kind of clinical striker that Leeds would love to have in their ranks.

He was a proven performer in the Premier League before he moved to Saudi Arabia, and now wants to return to England in the winter transfer window.

Financially, it would be a complicated deal to do given Toney’s wages, but Leeds must at least start the conversation to see where it goes ahead of January.

Toney would be a motivated signing, give his need to play in the World Cup, and Leeds would be getting a proven Premier League goalscorer for the second half of the season.
