The primary complaint centres on referee Walsh only issuing a yellow card to Celtic’s Auston Trusty for kicking goalkeeper Jack Butland in the head. Rangers believe this merited a straight red card. Reports indicated Walsh explained his decision by citing the lack of excessive force. This explanation has intensified the situation, with Rangers viewing it as a failure in consistency.
The Rangers Fan Advisory Board (FAB) has called the performance “erratic, dysfunctional and error-strewn.” The SFA confirmed it met with Rangers representatives to seek explanations for major decisions. Following the meeting, reports suggest that Nick Walsh is set to be punished or sanctioned by the governing body due to the club’s official dissatisfaction and the perceived failure of the VAR review process. This potential action highlights a continuing crisis in trust regarding Scottish football refereeing standards.
