But the referee saw a handball and disallowed the goal on the field, before the decision went to VAR.Footage showed that the ball seemed to hit the Brazilian forward’s chest/shoulder before he scored, but VAR failed to see that and instead stuck with the decision to disallow the goal.

After the goal was disallowed by the officials on field, VAR then went on to confirm the decision, despite replays showing that the ball hit the strikers shoulder and not his arm.

In a statement released on X, the Premier League said: “The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that Jesus accidentally handled the ball before scoring.”Nottingham Forest were left furious as a result of the decision, with Slot’s side given a lifeline to get back into the game in the second half with the game at just 1-0.

The decision also left fans baffled with one labelling it as the ‘Worst decision of the season,’ and an ‘absolute disgrace’, while another fan on Reddit said it was ‘about as clear cut as it gets, don’t know how that was disallowed.’

Liverpool came into the game on the back of a run of seven defeats in ten games and were looking to get their season back on track after the international break, despite dealing with a number of injuries to the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Conor Bradley.
