Kris Boyd has unleashed his scathing assessment of Patrick Stewart’s short-lived Rangers reign.

Rangers announced the dismissals of Stewart and Kevin Thelwell on Monday after months of intense scrutiny and fan rage.

Stewart was appointed as Rangers‘ chief executive officer in November 2024 and has overseen four different managers in that time.

The constant change in Govan was unsettling under Stewart, and Kris Boyd has revealed that the working environment became increasingly unpleasant at Ibrox.

Stewart had always been insistent that he had what it takes to build a successful football club from top to bottom, but it’s clear that he was out of his depth.Speaking on The Warm-Up podcast on 24 November, Boyd shared what he had been told about Stewart’s disappointing spell in Govan, and believes staff members grew unhappy over recent months.

He said: “Have you ever seen such a bad transfer window? I don’t see one player who is better than what they had last season.

“From what I’ve heard, not a lot of people were enjoying the working environment behind the scenes under Stewart.

“A lot of people want out, and that can’t be a good environment to work in.”

Stewart and Thelwell were confronted by fans after the Europa League loss to Sturm Graz on 2 October.

Stewart was also targeted with protests before the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final against Hibernian on 20 September.

The atmosphere around G51 was incredibly hostile, and no wonder that people working within the club were becoming irritated with the CEO’s actions.

What’s undeniable is that his relationship with the fans has been burned ever since Martin’s appointment.

Of course, the results on the pitch were unacceptable, and Stewart has become another casualty of Martin’s time in Govan.

After sacking the former Southampton manager, it took 17 days for the Bears to appoint Danny Rohl.

Talks with both Kevin Muscat and Steven Gerrard fell through, and whilst some of the blame must fall at Andrew Cavenagh’s feet, is it really a coincidence that two reputable managers declined the job if they had to work with Thelwell and Stewart?Perhaps the reason Rohl accepted the position is due to his history working under far worse ownership at Sheffield Wednesday, or he potentially knew Stewart and Thelwell wouldn’t last long.

Regardless, the fans, staff, and players can all look towards a better future now that Stewart has finally been relieved of his duties.
