Ex-Rangers striker casts verdict on potential Aribo return

Danny Rohl will have the final say in whether Joe Aribo returns to Rangers, insists a former Ibrox striker.

The midfielder is out of favour at Southampton, and some supporters have touted a potential move back to Glasgow.

Gordon Dalziel, who turned in the light blue of Rangers for four years, recently cast his verdict on a move for Aribo.

“Aribo knows the club,” he said on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. “Itโ€™s under different ownership and a different manager, but he knows the supporters, the demands put on you when you play for a club the size of Rangers. Itโ€™s an interesting one.

“I donโ€™t know if I can see it happening or not because Iโ€™ve not really heard anything going down that road.

“He was good at Rangers. He was a good player. But it just depends on how the manager going forward is going to play, if thatโ€™s the sort of player he wants in his squad and he wants in his team.”

Rangers head coach Rohl was asked about the January transfer window before his side’s recent Europa League match against Ferencvaros.

He said: “Generally for me, it is about a balance. You need in some positions a good group of leaders.

“When I look a little bit back to my time in Munich and you have a core like (David) Alaba, (Joshua) Kimmich, (Thomas) Muller, (Robert) Lewandowski and (Manuel) Neuer. Then this is a core.

“And around this core you can play with exciting young players. But it’s good in some phases of the season that you have this stability in some positions and of course this is also what we are looking for. But it’s about the balance.”

Rangers are back in action on Monday evening as they welcome Hibernian to Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
