Rangers‘ faltering campaign suffered another bump in the road at the weekend when they were held to a dismal goalless draw by Falkirk at Ibrox.



That result saw the Light Blues miss the chance to go third and narrow the gap on leaders Hearts in the process.



It also cost Danny Rohl the chance to record a fifth straight league win in a row since his appointment as Gers head coach to replace Russell Martin.



After the game, Rohl admitted that many of the club’s players are running out of chances to impress him.

The summer recruitment has been widely seen as a disaster with none of the big arrivals so far meeting expectations.



Rangers spent £8million on Youssef Chermiti from Everton and also parted with sizable outlays to bring in the likes of Thelo Aasgaard, Oliver Antman and Bojan Miovski.



Loan signings Nasser Djiga and Max Aarons have also failed to hit any heights.



Sporting director Kevin Thelwell paid the price for the disastrous transfer window when he was dramatically axed by chairman Andrew Cavenagh last week alongside chief executive Patrick Stewart.

While it’s unclear what funds will be available to Rohl in January, it is anticipated that he will be able to add to his squad.



But he could unexpectedly have a loaned out player back in the fold.










Oscar Cortes was a £4million signing for Rangers at the beginning of the last transfer window.



The winger’s loan deal with French club Lens from the previous season had an obligation to buy inserted.



But it’s been a dreadful time of things so far at Ibrox for the 21-year old, who has one cap for Colombia.



Injury has wreaked havoc with Cortes’ time at Rangers and he’s failed to really grasp any opportunities handed to him.



He made a couple of substitute appearances under Martin at the very start of the season before starting the 4-2 Premier Sports Cup win over Alloa.



But that’s the last time he’s been seen in action for Rangers and he was loaned out at the end of the window.



Cortes moved to Spanish second tier outfit Sporting Gijon on a season-long loan deal.



But the move hasn’t given Cortes the opportunities that he and Rangers would’ve liked so far.



He’s been restricted to just six appearances in Spain and has started just once in the league.



That start came in the clash with Mirandes at the beginning of last month and he was hooked at half time.



Cortes’ lack of game time has reportedly caught the attention of Rangers.



According to local outlet La Voz de Asturias, the player’s situation in Gijon is being “closely monitored” by the Ibrox club.



The report says that the Gers have concerns about Cortes’ lack of opportunities and could look to cut the loan deal short.



However, it goes on to say that any termination of the deal would need an agreement from THREE parties.



As well as Cortes and Rangers, the report claims the winger would
need to find a new club as he still doesn’t figure in the Light Blues’
plans.
