Rangers are at risk of ending the 2025/26 campaign without winning any silverware, even if Danny Rohl believes a comeback is possible. On Sunday, Rangers were beaten 2-1 by Hearts to dent their chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title. Defeat at Tynecastle has left the Light Blues trailing the league leaders by a whopping 12 points, as Alan Hutton lamented poor defending from Emmanuel Fernandez as a main reason for their loss. The Gers must now piece together a near-perfect run in the final 20 matches to stand any chance of beating Hearts and Celtic to the title, and unfortunately, not even optimism from Rohl can change supporters’ thinking.

As a result, there’s not much confidence from the fanbase that Rangers can close the deficit between them and Hearts. Despite this, Rohl still thinks his side are in the title race and they can pull off a miraculous run of victories to overtake their rivals come May. Speaking in his latest press conference, the German said: “I think when you look back, I know football is not always easy, but if I asked you eight weeks ago if it is possible to have, at the end of December, a game where we can play again for maybe the title race? Then you would say, I’m not sure.
“It hurts so much at the moment that we had this small setback, but it’s for us to start winning games again – there are still 20 games to go, and if you do this, then you have a chance.”

Rangers only saving grace
Hearts have only tasted defeat once in 18 league matches this term, and Rangers will need them to lose at least three more and win 90% of their matches to stand any chance. Old Firm rivals Celtic are only six points off the summit with a game in hand and look the most likely to mount a challenge, even after Wilfried Nancy’s awful start to life at Parkhead. The only saving grace for Rangers is that Hearts haven’t won the Scottish first division title since 1960 – a staggering 65 years ago – so when it gets to the business end of the campaign, nerves could get the better of them. But even if they do show signs of crumbling, Rohl’s men must capitalise, and on the evidence of their campaign so far, there’s little chance of them putting a consistent run of wins together.
