Rohl says Rangers star was ‘exceptional’ against Motherwell

Jack Butland‘s performance against Motherwell has been hailed as “exceptional” by Danny Rohl.

The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet, providing the foundation for the Rangers‘ victory, and paving the way for Thelo Aasgaard’s tap-in goal which secured three points.

This win has consequently pushed Motherwell down to fourth position in the Premiership.

Butland was under scrutiny after being held responsible for Lawrence Shankland’s second goal, and partly for Stuart Findlay’s first, in the defeat to Hearts. Yet, he made a superb comeback against Motherwell, saving four potential goals.

Rohl acknowledged Butland’s contribution in an interview with BBC Scotland.

He praised: “Exceptional from Jack. I think after the Hearts game you could criticise him but today he showed why I trust him so much. It was an outstanding performance and it is important to have a clean sheet. If you have clean sheets then you can win games.”

Another benefit for the Rangers was Hearts’ unanticipated slip at Hibernian, putting Rangers nine points from first place with one game in hand.

Rohl dismissed the idea that missed opportunities during the game were due to his team’s anxiety.
