Former Rangers star Eyes Sensational Rangers Return: Ex-Star Claims ‘Unfinished Business’ at Ibrox

Former Rangers defender Nikola Katic is reportedly keen on a dramatic return to Ibrox, with sources close to the player revealing he has “unfinished business” at the club he left in 2022.

The 29-year-old Croatian-born centre-back, now a Bosnia and Herzegovina international, spent four seasons with Rangers from 2018 to 2022, making 59 appearances and scoring key goals, including in the Europa League. Signed by Steven Gerrard for £2 million from Slaven Belupo, Katic was a fans’ favourite before a serious knee injury sidelined him for over a year. He was loaned to Hajduk Split and Zurich before joining the Swiss side permanently.

Currently contracted to FC Zurich until 2026, Katic has impressed in the Swiss Super League and internationally. Recent reports indicate Rangers have shown interest in bringing him back during the January transfer window to bolster their defence amid a challenging season.

A source close to Katic’s agent told the Daily Record: “We’ve had nothing concrete yet but we’ve seen some stories in the media and of course, Niko would like it a lot if he could return to Rangers. If Rangers knock on the door, that would be the priority for Nikola. He still has 18 months remaining on his contract in Zurich. But if it is meant for him to return to Rangers, he will be there.”

Katic’s potential comeback would address Rangers’ need for defensive depth under manager Danny Rohl, who is actively seeking reinforcements. The player’s physical presence and aerial ability made him a standout during Gerrard’s title-winning era, and fans remember his passionate displays fondly.

His time at Ibrox ended prematurely due to injury and competition for places, leaving the towering defender eager to complete what he started. A return could reignite his career in Glasgow and help Rangers challenge at the top.

With the transfer window open, talks could accelerate. Katic’s desire for unfinished business might just seal a heartfelt reunion.
