​Roy Keane has delivered one of his most scathing post-match assessments to date, following Leeds United’s heartbreaking 4-3 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.
​In a match that saw Leeds lead three times, the collapse in stoppage time—culminating in a 112th-minute winner from Harvey Barnes—left the former Manchester United captain fuming. While Leeds showed spirit, Keane focused his ire on Brenden Aaronson, despite the American scoring twice. The pundit was left “disgusted” by the midfielder’s late lapse in judgment: a 91st-minute handball that gifted Newcastle the equalizing penalty.
​”I don’t care about the two goals; you can’t have that lack of discipline at this level,” Keane barked on Sky Sports. “It’s amateur hour. To throw away a result like that in the dying seconds is unforgivable. If I’m the manager, I’d sell him in January and forget it ever happened.”
​The defeat leaves Daniel Farke’s side in 16th place, hovering dangerously near the relegation zone. For Keane, the performance was symbolic of a “soft center” that will see the club relegated if drastic changes aren’t made.
