Rangers’ win over Aberdeen was overshadowed by an incident involving Nicolas Raskin at full-time.
On what was a miserable Sunday night as far as the weather went at Pittodrie, Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 to keep the pressure on Hearts.
Danny Rohl’s side beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox on 6 January, meaning they’ve completed an exact league double over the Dandies.
Jack Butland’s superb save at 0-0 paved the way for Thelo Aasgaard and James Tavernier to go and score the two goals that would ultimately hand Rangers a vital three points, as they now go into a two-week break in Premiership action before resuming their title charge against Dundee FC on 25 January.
Nicolas Raskin incident will steal the headlines
It was another brilliant win for Rangers, but unfortunately, it likely won’t be the coaching performance from Danny Rohl and the on-field on from his players that will claim the front pages on Monday morning.
Instead, it will surely be of the scenes down near at the entrance of the Pittodrie tunnel after the full-time whistle, in which Rangers midfielder Raskin was captured squirting a water bottle in the face of an Aberdeen supporter.
What, if anything, caused Raskin to add yet another dash of water to the Aberdeen fan – not that they nor anyone inside Pittodrie needed it – is unclear.
Chris Sutton wants action to be taken against Raskin for the incident, and he may well get his wish.
Raskin told to prepare for possible Rangers ban
Speaking exclusively with Ibrox News, former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett is also in agreement with Sutton, and believes that punishment should be handed out to Raskin.
“This is unacceptable behaviour from a player,” Hackett said.
Raskin has received two yellow cards in the Premiership this season
He was booked eight times for Rangers in the league in 2024-25
Raskin has never been shown a red card for Rangers in the Premiership
“It should certainly lead to an investigation with a view to the player receiving a ban. When we want fans to behave this does not set a good example.”
