Rangers FC has issued a firm response following the viral footage of midfielder Nicolas Raskin squirting a water bottle at an Aberdeen supporter. The incident occurred in the tunnel area immediately following the Gers’ 2-0 victory at Pittodrie on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
In an official statement, the club acknowledged the video but pointed to a broader pattern of hostility directed at their players during the match. A club spokesperson stated:
”While we do not condone actions that escalate tensions, it is important to note the unacceptable environment our players faced, including Emmanuel Fernandez being struck by an object earlier in the match. We are dealing with the matter internally.”
Manager and SFA Reaction
Manager Danny Röhl has reportedly chosen to stand by his player, downplaying the “disgusting” label used by some critics and focusing on the three points that keep Rangers in the title hunt. However, the Scottish FA is currently reviewing the footage. Precedent suggests Raskin may escape a lengthy ban but could receive a formal warning, similar to the “Watergate” incident involving Vaclav Cerny last season.
