Alan Shearer has provided his snap verdict on Newcastle United’s draw with Wolves.

Newcastle United were held to a goalless draw by Premier League basement boys Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Eddie Howe’s side headed into the match eyeing a fourth straight league win that would lift them back into the European places. But it was very much the same old story for the Magpies, whose struggles on the road this season were once again there for everyone to see.

Newcastle didn’t register a shot on target until the 84th minute when goalkeeper Jose Sa parried Bruno Guimaraes’ effort before denying Joelinton.

Other than that, Nick Woltemade and Joelinton miscued some promising aerial openings, while Kieran Trippier hit the side-netting with a free-kick. A late slash wide from Bruno Guimaraes summed up the flat performance.

Of their 11 Premier League away matches, Newcastle have won just two, with big guns such as Arsenal, Man City, Aston Villa, Liverpool & Chelsea still to play. Howe’s side sit eighth in the table.

Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports: “There’s that little bit of a lack of belief [away from home]. At home, the crowd play a big part and the atmosphere and the players play maybe a bit more on the front foot.

“Some of the crosses coming into the box today, you think, ‘lads, get on the end of it’. Good balls from the right, left. But the forwards aren’t gambling. They’re not risking enough at the moment. It’s two points dropped.”

Clinton Morrison: Newcastle United ‘nowhere near good enough’

Clinton Morrison told BBC 5 Live: “Newcastle were nowhere near good enough.

“This is a diferent Wolves, but if you want to be in those Champions League places you need to come and beat teams like Wolves. Eddie Howe will be disappointed.

“Even if you don’t beat them, you have to create more chances than they did with the attacking prowess they have and the options they have on the bench.”
