RabiuRangers hero Ally McCoist brands officials ‘inept’ over VAR
Rangers legend Ally McCoist has criticised Scottish football’s VAR officials as “inept.”
The ex-striker was outraged following his former club’s 2-2 draw with Livingston, where a late penalty claim by Rangers was dismissed.In added time, Mikey Moore was brought down by Livingston’s Cammy Kerr.
After reviewing the incident, VAR concluded that the contact occurred outside the penalty area and decided not to intervene.
Mr McCoist said: “The officiating at the weekend in Scotland was absolutely horrendous.
“We brought VAR into help them and it’s actually showing them up.”
If the referee makes a mistake guys, you say that’s fine, they got it wrong, “but if someone is sitting watching it eight or nine times and still getting it wrong, what chance have we got?”
The decision at Livingston in the last minute is absolutely outrageous.
“The bottom line is the referee is five yards away, it’s a penalty, he should be giving a penalty and that’s it finished.”
Mr McCoist also criticised the decision to send Auston Trusty off in Celtic’s 2-1 defeat to Hibernian.
Trusty was dismissed following a VAR intervention after clashing with Jamie McGrath.
Mr McCoist said: “First thing you’d say is the Hibs player doesn’t cover himself in glory.
“It’s a terrible decision, nobody come on and tell me about violent conduct because the guy is holding him and puts his hand down to get him off him.”
His critique extended to St Mirren’s Richard King’s red card in their 5-0 defeat to Motherwell.
McCoist said: “I’m leaving the studio for the last one. He’s got to be horrified at that when he watches that on the tele.
“I’ve been saying it for weeks; Motherwell have been playing the best football in the country.”
They have a fantastic result away at St Mirren.
“Instead of talking about Motherwell’s brilliant result, we’re talking about a ridiculous sending off for King when Slattery goes down holding his face. Embarrassing.”
